Department: Master of Education
Module Description: The Educational Planning and Governance module examines policy frameworks, principles, and processes that shape decision-making in education systems. It explores how policies are developed, implemented, and evaluated at local, national, and global levels. The module covers the roles of key stakeholders such as governments, institutions, and teachers, and investigates how power, politics, and ideologies influence education reform and practice. Through case studies and critical analysis, students gain insight into governance structures, accountability mechanisms, and the impact of educational planning and policy on educational equity, quality, and access. Students will be able to articulate and reflect on their own beliefs about educational planning, policymaking and governance in education practice, and the relationship between planning/policy governance, and student learning outcomes. Further, they will be able to undertake research in educational planning, policy and governance with a view to informing understanding and practice. Particular attention is paid to planning and governance issues; policy making and governance practices in the UAE and MENA contexts.
