Module Description: The counselling psychology module will provide students with an introduction to the foundational concepts, theories and approaches to intervening in the lives of individuals and groups who require support to deal with difficult developmental and environmentally induced stressors. School-aged children and young people often experience difficulties in dealing with academic and social demands inside and outside of school. Part of these difficulties may stem from individual psychological capabilities or societal and environmental factors. In such situations professional support is required. This module will enable students to understand the theoretical underpinnings of individual distress and wellbeing, and how to apply theory-informed interventions to support people overcome their difficulties and enhance their wellbeing.
