Module Description: The main objectives of this module are to provide students with an understanding of the concept and sources of Human Rights and civil liberties, and to familiarise them with the international and domestic obstacles to the realisation of human rights. The module covers the study of the history and legal sources of Human Rights, Human Rights under the United Nations, Universality and Diversity in international Human Rights, Substantive Rights, Economic, social and cultural rights, Islamic Law and International Human Rights, role of business organisations and non-governmental organisations in the protection of Human Rights, Compliance and Monitoring Mechanisms, Enforcing Human Rights, and Innovative approaches to International Human Rights Law and practice.
The module coordinator will provide students with mandatory texts on UAE Law prepared purposefully for this particular module.
